3 Tips to Relieve Anxiety

Anxiety is something many of us struggle with. Whether it’s worry about the future, fear of failure, or the weight of daily responsibilities, anxious thoughts can steal our peace and joy. Thankfully, God’s Word offers timeless wisdom and comfort. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV) says:

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

This powerful passage gives us three practical steps to calm our anxious hearts. Let’s break them down:

1. Trade Worry for Prayer

Paul begins with, “Be careful for nothing,” which means don’t be anxious or overly worried. Instead of letting your mind spiral, turn that energy into prayer. Each time anxiety arises, pause and talk to God about it. Hand over your concerns, big or small, knowing He cares for you.

Tip: Try keeping a “prayer list.” Every time something worries you, write it down and immediately lift it up to the Lord. This helps shift your focus from the problem to the One who has the power to solve it.

2. Add Thanksgiving to Your Prayers

Paul doesn’t just say to pray—he says to pray “with thanksgiving.” Gratitude changes the posture of our hearts. Instead of focusing on what’s missing or what might go wrong, thanksgiving reminds us of God’s past faithfulness. This strengthens our faith in His ability to take care of the present and the future.

Tip: Start your prayers by thanking God for at least three things He has already done for you. This practice not only reduces anxiety but also builds trust in His goodness.

3. Rest in God’s Peace

When we bring our requests to God with a thankful heart, something supernatural happens: “the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” This peace is not based on circumstances—it’s a divine calmness that guards both our emotions and our thoughts.

Tip: After praying, release the outcome to God. Don’t take back the worry. Trust that His peace will guard your heart like a shield, even when the situation hasn’t changed yet.

Final Thoughts

Philippians 4:6-7 gives us a beautiful roadmap for handling anxiety: pray instead of worrying, give thanks as you pray, and rest in God’s peace. The next time anxiety tries to overwhelm you, remember these three steps and let God’s Word guide you back to peace.
